Park Meadows SC for our Oct. 1 trip

I just got this email from our club member, Dan Rosenblatt:

I was there late last night, and noticed a sign on one of the charging spots – that it was out of service.
The other side (of the A-B pair) was working, but only at 30 kW.
Dunno how much of an impact that will have on our Oct 1st “See the fall colors” as C.S. folks have been told they can charge at Park Meadows SC prior to heading out.

The trip on Oct. 1 is estimated to be 160 rated miles, and should be well within the range of a Tesla 75kW or greater. See the map below.

More EV charging stations in Colorado!

EV Demonstration, Golden, CO - Oct. 1, 2016

As part of the 2016 Golden Tour of Solar & Sustainable Homes, I’m hosting an EV round-up in my parking lot at Golden Real Estate. Bring an EV or just come to see others and gets rides, including in my 2015 Tesla which just got the 8.0 software update.  I’ll be giving a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation throughout the day explaining how EV’s work and why they are more practical and affordable than gas-powered vehicles, even at today’s prices.

Pikes Peak Rally stats!

The CSEVC group had a good turnout today, 14 EVs, for the Pikes Peak Rally. I have lots of photos and data to gather and publish. I'll include a photo taken by Kevin Reilly of the group, his was far better than mine!

Rough calculations (to be published later in detail): it took all cars about 3x the energy to climb Pikes Peak (20 miles up, but 60-70 miles of range consumed). Going back down you to 2:1 returned (20 miles down and over +20 miles recaptured).

Brake temps were 51, 53, 54, 58 and 60 F.

Note: The amount of data captured is too wide to show on this blog. If you'd like a copy of the spreadsheet showing the information, just email Wilson Hitchings and I'll send you a copy!

Pikes Peak Rally - Saturday 11:00am

Don't forget to meet at the KFC, 31st and Colorado Ave., Colorado Springs, at 11:00am to climb Pikes Peak this Saturday. Come early for a group photo. We can meet after the climb for lunch in downtown Colorado Springs.

NOTE: There is a festival on Colorado Ave. this morning that will block W. Colorado Ave from 30th Street to the East. Either get to the KFC from Highway 24 or come down 31st Street to avoid the traffic. See you there!

September meeting

We didn't have a full house this month, but lots of announcements were made, especially the Fall Colors Run and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Two Model X Teslas were there!

More electric vehicles to choose from!

Even Canada is making EVs. Our club needs an adventurous member to buy one, so that we have the widest possible collection of EVs.

Many attended, much fun. Dan Rosenblatt reported "I did 11 total runs, my 3rd was the best, and the times/speeds got progressively worse from there (as my battery % went down). Each run used 6-7 miles of battery range."

See Kevin Reilly's photos here.
