Club member, Curtis Claar, makes the news!

Our club member, Curtis Claar, had the KOAA news recently when he was mentioned as a private individual installing rapid charging stations in our area. He's in the permitting stage of putting a charger in Walsenburg, CO. How about our club make an event of driving down to the new charger and celebrating a new charging point?

Here's the news article: https://www.koaa.com/news/covering-colorado/entrepreneur-aims-to-shorten-gap-for-ev-charging?fbclid=IwAR15IhlHWyzMcsCVZjjTf1w-f8cbsYLhJMYQSfRaCZ2pmvTacJ9TMSeCHjQ

Oops, I did it again...

No, this isn't a Brittany Spears song. Thanks to Robert G., a club member, for the link to a story that FCA has been charged with trying to bugger the USA Clean Air Act. The story (below) doesn't say what specific brand of diesel engine/vehicle is affected, Dodge?

New member Pam Doane

Please welcome our newest member, Pam Doane. She lives in Colorado Springs, CO and drives a 2018 Tesla Model 3.

From Pam:

Hi, Wilson,

You’re a fast worker.  My info looks good.  I enjoyed reading the newsletter and Mindy Brown’s e-saga, and watching the video of the road trip to NM.  I have a fun little story about buying my Tesla that I’ll have to share with you sometime.

I heard about CSEVC when my husband and I attended one of the community information meetings hosted by CO Springs Utilities a year or so ago?  A man attending the meeting told us about you. Also, when I was washing my car at my local do-it-yourself car wash another man told me about the club.  You have some great ambassadors out there.

Thanks for your quick response to my email.  I look forward to meeting you and the other members of the club.

Pam

Hyundai recall

It looks like Hyundai has an expensive recall ahead of it, and it's an interesting topic in that it involves LG Chem, the battery manufacturer for lots of EVs:

PPHC Electrification Efforts for 2021

From our club member Chris Lennon:

========================

Hi Wilson:

I hope the holidays have been good for you.

We are moving full steam ahead with our EV effort for Pikes Peak. We got a new eight-motor powertrain into the car a couple of weeks ago, and did an initial shakedown. It was extremely fast, and we are pleased. We are planning our first full on-track test this Saturday, at La Junta Raceway.

I wanted to invite you down to the test if you were interested, and also wanted to see if you had any suggestions of natural matches in terms of sponsorship of our effort, now that the time has come to commit to the race (in every sense, including financially). As you can imagine, we can use all the help we can get, and over the years, have found that there’s no replacement for personal connections/intros for getting sponsors excited about getting on board. We are connected in with the CREA (Colorado Rural Electric Association), which is a good local tie-in. If there are folks in the EV community who might get excited about this, and be interested in individual or company-based sponsorships, I’d love to invite them down to this and/or future tests!

 Chris
